Your favorite color,
does it actually suit you?
Spoiler: the problem is almost never the color. It's the shade of that color. Let me explain in 3 minutes.
It's happened to all of us: you spot a gorgeous red dress, you try it on… and something's off. You look washed out, tired, as if the color is wearing you instead of the other way around. So you decide, "red just isn't my thing."
But here's the good news: almost any color can look stunning on you. The secret is choosing the right version of that color for your skin. Because there isn't just one red — there are warm reds and cool reds. And your skin has a very clear preference.
01Your skin is warm or cool (never neutral)
Every skin has an undertone — a background temperature that doesn't change even when you tan. And here's the key part: that undertone is warm or cool. There's no truly neutral undertone — it always leans one way, even if just slightly.
02Warm: golden, peach, terracotta
If your undertone is warm, your skin has a golden or peachy base. Colors with yellow in them look wonderful on you — think of late-afternoon light.
03Cool: berry, cobalt, emerald
If your undertone is cool, your skin has a pink or bluish base. Colors with blue or purple in them will make you glow.
04Test it in the mirror
The easiest way to know? Hold a fabric swatch near your face in natural light — no makeup. If your skin looks brighter and your eyes more vivid, it's your color. If you look tired or uneven, try the other temperature.
"The right color doesn't just complement your skin — it reveals the version of you that was always there."
